They are fully recyclable and compostable and 100 per cent plastic-free. The manufacturer employs cellulose from straw crop residues. The seeds, skins and fibres of the plants provide a high-quality raw material. The company has succeeded in reducing waste with its innovation, as annually over 5.3 billion fruit pads end up in landfills in the UK alone – enough to cover almost half a million tennis courts. The embossed surface of the pads cushions the fruit and minimises spoilage. It absorbs around 500 ml of fungal water per square metre, with no need for perforations.
