Key to the new system is a LiDAR-based situational awareness system that detects obstacles and offers precision tracking over terrain. A three-dimensional laser scanner also detects minor obstacles such as wires and power lines and measures the distance to uneven tree canopies. The drone is therefore able to accurately maintain the correct distance for efficient crop-spraying. Its height can be continuously adjusted for individual crop treatment. The result is a safer, more precise and efficient solution for agricultural drone operations.
