The market is changing. Last year was a tough one for all retailers, and that includes Sweden’s leading grocery business ICA Gruppen. In January, it announced it would invest almost 90 million euros to reduce prices across its entire range this year.
The suggestion that discounting and price promotions are here to stay will never be a popular message for suppliers. But the reality is that many consumers want to spend less. And this makes it much harder for suppliers to grow their business on the back of otherwise strong demand for healthy food.
In this interview, we speak to Maria Wieloch, senior category manager for fruit, vegetables and flowers at ICA, to understand where this new trend could take us.
